Emerson's service facilities recognized with "SEL Expert" designation by leader in power system protection industry

Rigorous testing by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) verifies that Emerson meets the highest standards as an integrator and tester of electrical systems

AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 2, 2008) – Emerson Process Management has announced that its Electrical Reliability Services organization is the first electrical services provider in the nation to be named "SEL Expert" by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., the industry leader in power system protection products and services.  The thorough knowledge and understanding of electric power systems demonstrated by Emerson's Electrical Reliability Services personnel as well as vast field experience led Schweitzer to make this accreditation.

Two Emerson service facilities were awarded the SEL Expert accreditation.  The Electrical Reliability Services - San Diego office was designated a Gold SEL Expert in Integration Automation, while the Electrical Reliability Services - Denver office is a Silver SEL Expert in Protection.  Additional personnel and service facilities are expected to be awarded SEL accreditations in the near future.

The recognition extends and strengthens Emerson's collaboration with Schweitzer to offer a more integrated solution to customers, streamlining the customer experience. In addition to the leading products and site services, Emerson personnel will have access to Schweitzer's applications engineering support to deliver new, advanced technology solutions.  Ongoing training provided by Schweitzer, an integral part of the SEL Expert program, will broaden the already extensive capabilities of Emerson's Electrical Reliability Services personnel.

Emerson's Electrical Reliability Services business is a leader in applying technology for automation and control of power systems.  These services improve system reliability, increase safety, and reduce potential downtime.  Emerson personnel work with customers to upgrade out-dated protective systems from electro-mechanical to digital processing, enabling them to extract more information about the condition and safety of their equipment in order to maintain system integrity.  Emerson also designs and installs new electrical protection systems, retrofits existing relay systems, conducts short-circuit and coordination studies, and performs acceptance testing to ensure system operability and functionality.
